Thank You For Texting

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

I know that not everyone has a cell phone, but to those of you who do: Thank you for texting. It is currently my preferred mode of communication. If I am feeding my daughter lunch, I may not be able to answer the phone, but I will be able to pop off a text reply. There are countless instances where texting has proved to be the fastest way of reaching me and receiving an answer to a question.

If you need to call me, feel free, but to those of you who text: thank you very much.

Good Boys Intergenerational Activity – Sunday, May 24, 2009 – 1:30 p.m.

Two fathers. A school shooting.
Eight years later, how do we forgive and heal?
Good Boys is the story of two men, one black one white, who meet eight years after a school shooting in which both their sons died, one a victim the other the shooter. As the fathers search for understanding and viciously cast blame, they confront difficult questions about vengeance and responsibility. Is it possible to heal?

Our youth group will be attending this play on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. (meet at the church). I am looking for a couple adults to attend and drive – your tickets will be paid for. Each ticket will be $12. If you need a scholarship, please use this form: Scholarship Form. Due to the language used in this play, a supplemental permission form will be required.

Dodgeball Tournament – May 17, 2009 – 2 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

This upcoming Sunday, we will be participating in a dodgeball tournament at San Carlos UMC. The cost is $10. I currently have six people signed up, but have RSVP’d for two teams – twelve people.

Full event details at SCUMyouth.com.

Future of Forestry Concert – May 16, 2009 – 6p.m. – 8p.m.

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

From San Diego, California, the band Future of Forestry draws their name from the title of a C.S Lewis poem. Veering from the saturated and homogenous pop culture, the band has cast out into deeper waters to draw from the essence of life in music. For more information, and to listen to tracks from their forthcoming album, visit http://www.myspace.com/futureofforestry.

Our purpose for this event is to allow the different church youth groups and community organizations in La Mesa and East County to have a time to mingle and get to know one another. While Future of Forestry is a Christian band, our group is not using this as an outreach opportunity, but rather a time to meet new friends in other churches and community groups.

We want this event to have as much participation as possible. Please invite your friends!

New Email Management System

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

In an attempt to streamline all the technology used with LaMesaYouth, I have decided to use an opt-in email system. That means, first of all, that no one will receive the LaMesaYouth email who does not want to and, second of all, if someone wants to stop receiving our communication, it is merely a click of a mouse – no awkwardness of having to email me and ask.

Please take a moment and go to http://www.lamesayouth.org/email_subscription.html and sign up. The switch will take place on June 1, 2009. That will be the day I stop emailing with the current system.

Oh yeah, Mother’s Day!

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Somehow I forgot Mother’s Day was Sunday. As a result, we don’t have youth group. Hang out with your mom; she will love it.

We do have a Movie Marathon on Saturday. I hope that makes up for it. See you guys!
